The Seth Moulton for U.S. Senate Campaign is seeking a talented, experienced, and highly motivated Press Secretary with strong writing skills and the ability to establish a rapport with the press. This person will be responsible for helping to ensure the objectives and achievements of Congressman Seth Moulton regarding his campaign for the U.S. Senate are communicated efficiently and effectively to the media and public. The individual needs to simplify complex issues to convey the Congressman’s campaign objectives utilizing print, digital, and social media.
- Role Responsibilities
- Press Clips: Compiles local and national news articles daily for the Congressman and campaign staff to read. Maintains a record of all media stories mentioning the Congressman.
- Media Inquiries: Fields and responds to media inquiries, crafts responses, and works with the Communications Director to make decisions about granting interviews.
- Interview Preparation: Prepare campaign leaders for interviews by briefing them on latest news, potential questions, and media strategies.
- Writing/ Copyediting: Drafts, edits, or reviews press releases for distribution to local and national media and stakeholders. Assists with writing and editing speeches, talking points, video scripts, opinion-editorials, and newsletters. Ensures external communications are well written, professional, and consistent with the Congressman’s message.
- Social Media: Collaborates on the planning, creation, and posting of social media content. Assists with maintaining the Congressman’s campaign Facebook, X, Instagram, and other online media accounts, including monitoring social media for trending topics.
- Additional Duties: Maintains and updates press distribution list. Works closely with the Communications Director to determine the best way to communicate the Congressman’s campaign work, and assists with other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in media relations and public relations.
- Familiarity with current events and political issues.
- Familiarity with and connections to Massachusetts are strongly preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with social media platforms and digital communications tools.
- Graphic design experience a plus.
